Accessibility
Built to be used by everyone on the staff
KeepCount aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Here is what is checked today, what is not there yet, and how to tell us when something is in your way.
What we check
- Every change
- Every public page is checked with an automated accessibility test before it is published, and the build fails on a violation. Automated tests do not catch everything, so what you tell us matters.
- Contrast
- Every text and background pair is at least 4.5 to 1, including when an organization chooses its own colours.
- Not colour alone
- Every status shows a word as well as a colour: met, due soon, overdue, not applicable.
- Motion
- The home page’s pictures play once as each part scrolls into view, then rest; other motion is kept to state changes. With your system’s reduced-motion setting, nothing moves.
Known limits
- Keyboard, screen readers and touch
- We are still fixing places where a keyboard or a screen reader does not reach everything, and controls that are smaller than 44 pixels on a phone.
- Printed binder
- The inspection binder is a printable page; it reads well with a screen reader on screen, but the printed copy is for the inspector’s table.
- Third-party pieces
- The Turnstile check on public forms is built by Cloudflare.
Tell us
If something in KeepCount is hard to use with your equipment, or you need a document in another format, write to hello@keepcount.ca with "accessibility" in the subject. A person replies and tells you what we will do.
